Digital Chemotaxis
'Digital Chemotaxis'
Following Kees Weijer’s studies into self-organization in social amoebae through oscillatory cAMP cell-cell signalling, this work investigates the behaviour of agents which move to follow periodic wavefronts of chemicals, but also themselves amplify the chemical signals. Genetic algorithms and machine learning techniques are used to navigate the rich space of possibilities.

Early Mouse Embryo
An early mouse embryo comprised of just 16 cells, prior to implantation. Red and cyan spheres are cell nuclei and green shows cell outlines.

Single-cell phenomics reveals behavioural and mechanical heterogeneities underpinning collective migration during mouse anterior patterning
Computational reconstruction of a mouse embryo in which individual cells (magenta) have been tracked (blue). The coordinated movement of a subset of the cells is what sets up the head-tail axis i the embryo.

UMAP visualisation showing dimensionality reduction of protein binding site signals represented as images of peaks. Similar peak regions from and experiment can be vectorised and grouped by similarity using this method.

Meta Evidence Wall (MEW)
Concept art to show potential future ways we can visualise and interact with data using eXtended reality.

Glyph-based visualisation of the patterns of anatomical localisation
The figure shows a visualisation the errors that are made when trying to find the exact part of the brain that's causing stroke symptoms. The image on the left shows where these mistakes are and on the right shows how big these mistakes are.

CSynth: an interactive modelling and visualisation tool for 3D chromatin structure
The 3D structure of chromatin in the nucleus is important for gene expression and regulation. CSynth, is an interactive 3D genome browser and real-time chromatin restraint-based modeller to visualise models of any chromosome conformation data.
